Project Overview

The CPV Keenan II wind farm, which began commercial operation in December 2010, features 66 Siemens 2.3MW turbines. Located on approximately 8,000 acres in Northwest Oklahoma, CPV Keenan II generates enough electricity to power around 45,000 Oklahoma homes and reduces carbon dioxide emissions equivalent to removing over 1 million cars.

CPV is commitment to being active members of our host community while supporting key regional initiatives. Since development began in 2008, CPV has been an active member of the community and contributes thousands annually to local non-profits including fire departments, academic fundraisers, the Future Farmers of America Premium Auction, Woodward Elks Rodeo, and family service programs.

Community Benefits

  • Generates over $1 million for local schools and other jurisdictions.
  • Creates direct and indirect jobs and encourages employee volunteerism in community activities.
  • Helps lower electricity bills due to land-based wind turbines.
  • Supported and helped establish the Wind Technology program at the High Plains Tech Center in Woodward and, in collaboration with Oklahoma Gas & Electric and the Woodward Industrial Foundation, persuaded Siemens Energy to open a wind service and distribution center in the area.

Environmental Benefits

  • Wind is a renewable resource that doesn’t pollute the air or water and does not require water for cooling.
  • CPV sold the 101 MW Phase I of the project to OG&E in 2009. The wind farm, OU Spirit, is currently in operation and provides its total energy output to the University of Oklahoma.
  • With geographical features well-suited to producing wind, Woodward is a natural place for wind farm installations.
